
ELS with star coupler is a key component in Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) that uses an External Laser Source (ELS) in a star topology to distribute light to multiple optical engines. In this system, a single, powerful laser module (the ELS) is located away from the primary switching chip (ASIC), and its light is distributed to the multiple PICs integrated on the same package as the ASIC. A PLC star coupler splits the light from multiple input fiber into multiple output fibers. In this application, it takes the CW laser light from the ELS and distributes it to the different optical engines on the CPO package.
